Drug addiction is serious business. There is more to it than what anybody will share in an interview, book or in a movie. The fact is that drug abuse has become so prevalent in today's society that most of us are able to spot someone suffering from a drug addiction and then shrug it off as if we hadn't seen anything at all. Perhaps this is why so many addicts suffer without seeking help. It's easy to think that your own community is insulated from things like drug abuse. The truth is that even the most picture perfect town has people living within its borders who are addicted to drugs.
In Delray Beach, Florida, there are many drug treatment centers that are available to those who are struggling with addictions to drugs and alcohol. These drug rehab programs can include both inpatient drug rehabilitation programs and outpatient drug rehabilitation services. They typically range from thirty days to ninety days depending on the depth of individuals struggles. In a study done by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the following drug statistics were discovered:
In 2004 More than nineteen million Americans over the age of twelve were currently using drugs-including harder and illicit drugs.
There were more than sixteen million adult Americans (over the age of eighteen) using illicit drugs.
In 2004, almost twenty three million Americans had dependency problems with drugs. About an eighth of these abused alcohol and drugs and half of the total number of users abused alcohol but did not have abuse problems with illicit drugs.
Finally, consider the following statistics from the 2007 National Survey on Drug Use and Health done by the Office of Applied Studies at the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
In 2007 almost twenty percent of adults over eighteen that were polled admitted to using illicit drugs within a month of the poll taking place. Marijuana was the second highest drug used in this poll and came in at just over sixteen percent of users polled.
This same survey found that males were more likely to abuse illicit drugs and marijuana while all other drugs were about even with both genders.
Because drug abuse is so common in our society the staff and experts many of the drug rehabs will not be surprised or shocked when you place your first call to begin your drug and/or alcohol rehabilitation treatments. Alcohol drinking patterns differ widely among age groups and gender. There are any numbers of variables that contribute to the differences in alcohol consumption among the cross section of drinkers. Family history is an important variable to be considered when looking at tolerance among those early in their drinking history. It appears that those that come from a family with a history of alcoholism are affected differently than those whose parents were non-drinkers or normal drinkers. Drinkers from families with a history of alcohol use have a higher tolerance to alcohol, causing them to increase their consumption to feel the same degree of intoxication.
Alcohol drinking patterns is a topic of study by researchers to determine damage caused by the use of alcohol. Tolerance must be included in the research because it determines the amount that can be consumed at one time. Those with a high tolerance will drink a considerable larger amount and still be able to function. This tells the drinker it is ok to drink more than their fellow drinkers because they aren't intoxicated. Younger drinkers see this as benefit, stating "they can drink their friends under the table". No consideration is given to the fact that larger amounts consumed by those with a high tolerance are causing more damage to the liver and other organs.
It may take those with a higher tolerance to alcohol consumption longer to get to a drug rehab center but when they arrive they are definitely ready. Physical deterioration of organs is a very effective argument when trying to break through the denial of someone just entering treatment for alcoholism.

Did you ever think that having giant pupils could disqualify you from being eligible for laser eye surgery? Well they might.
The pupil is the opening or hole in the center of the iris that admits light. It's size changes in direct response to changes in lighting. In bright light conditions, the pupil gets smaller. In poor light conditions, or when it's dark, the pupil dilates or gets larger. Many people with larger than normal pupils are not even aware of it. If you are highly sensitive to bright lights, this is a good sign that your pupils may be larger than normal.
However, it could also be the case that your enlarged pupil is the result of drug or medication interactions with your body. In this case, the condition is most likely temporary and your pupil under normal conditions could very well be normal in size.
It's important to recognize the fact that the size of left and right pupils are not necessarily the same. Having said that, under normal lighting conditions the diameter of an average sized pupil is 3 millimeters. The normal range varies from 2 millimeters to 6 millimeters. If you don't know the size of yours you can find out from your optometrist who will normally measure it's size during a regular eye exam.
So what exactly is the connection between large pupils and laser eye surgery?
If you have large pupils, some surgeons will be reluctant to ok you as a candidate for laser surgery because of previous documented problems. As with any surgery, there is always the chance that there could be post operative problems. On of the post op problems that those with large pupils have experienced following laser eye surgery is seeing persistent halos when looking at bright objects. You may, for example, see halos around car headlights, street lights, bright living room lights, and so on.
One reason why some surgeons may give you the ok and others will not is the type of laser used. When having laser eye surgery performed, the type of laser used is a MAJOR factor. One laser that has caused more and more surgeons to ok laser surgery for large pupil patients is the Allegretto laser. The Allegretto laser is a laser system that has been used in Europe since the late 1990s. It was cleared for use by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the U.S. in 2003.
The Allegretto laser can reportedly successfully treat pupils with a diameter of up to 6 millimeters. Supposedly it can reduce or eliminate the halo effect that happens when laser surgery is performed on large pupils. If the diameter of your pupil is larger than 6 millimeters, the odds that you will have an error free post op procedure diminishes. Keep in mind, however, that even under the best of circumstances that the success rate for laser surgery is in the high nineties percent range. Not 100%. And even though some doctors using the the Allegretto laser report that they have received far complaints about glare, halos, light sensitivity, and night driving glare - remember, fewer complaints doesn't equal no complaints.
To be on the safe size, if you think that you have larger than normal pupils, take extra care even beyond what you would normally do to ensure that your post operation results will be just as you imagined it.

I have been writing articles for several years. In all that time, I have had some really good questions e-mailed to me. It seems as though the same questions keep coming up, so I thought I would do a little question-and-answer session today. Doesn't that sound good? (It really doesn't matter; I am doing it anyway.)
Q: I feel very uncomfortable in the initial conversation when a prospect says to me: "There are plenty of people out there who do what you do, so why should I buy this widget from you?"
A: My answer would be: "I don't know, maybe you shouldn't. I really don't know enough about you yet to give you a good answer. What might make sense for us though is to ask each other a few questions, dig a little deeper and then we can probably figure out if what we have and what you're looking for is a fit. Does that make sense?"
I would do this for a few reasons:
1. If you answer this question, you are guessing what is important to your prospect. We can only assume that what we think is so great about our product or service they will also think is great and they may not.
2. Credibility. Selling 20 years ago was simpler than today: You went in, you gave the "features and benefits" of the product or service, and they chose. Sales is much more complicated today. It's complicated in many ways, but mostly because lots of people decided that selling is a way to make good money, so people who were not really out for the interest of the prospect were out selling and doing it badly. Therefore, it is important to act differently than how a stereotypical salesperson would.
Q: Sometimes, I have a prospect who is very interested, we do a proposal for them and they want our product, but the price is too high. What is the best way to negotiate the price?
A: The best way to negotiate the price is not to negotiate the price. Here's what I mean. You have a few issues here. First of all, what value was created in the initial meeting for you to feel that this prospect is worth your valuable time to go back and do a proposal?
If they need or want what you have, but they aren't willing to pay your price for it, the reason could be one of two. Maybe you didn't uncover the real issue and how your product will help solve it. This is where value comes from. You do not create value. It is created by the questions that you ask to get the prospect to self-realize that what you have and what they need is one and the same.
The other reason could be that you didn't discuss pricing at all in the initial meeting, so you are surprising them with the price now in the proposal. Bad idea. It is important to get everything on the table before you decide to go back and do a proposal. You need to at least give a range of dollars to get their approval of what money they are willing to spend. Then, if the money isn't enough, you either take some of your products or services out of the overall proposal or, if it isn't a fit with these, you decide to shake hands and walk away.
Believe me, to negotiate when you have already done all of the work on putting the proposal together is a time when you are excited about the idea of closing the sale. You are too vulnerable to negotiate here. All of this should be done before you come back and will do anything to close it.

By the end of the decade, Jackson had become one of America's first major female country and rockabilly singers. Jackson was born in Oklahoma, but her father Tom -- himself a country singer who quit because of the Depression -- moved the family to California in 1941. He bought Wanda her first guitar two years later, gave her lessons, and encouraged her to play piano as well. In addition, he took her to see such acts as Tex Williams, Spade Cooley, and Bob Wills, which left a lasting impression on her young mind.
